Righteousness By Faith and the 1888 General Conference
Resources
Note: In the article all verses were taken from the New King James Version, and all italics were supplied unless otherwise noted.
There are many great books out there on the subject of righteousness by faith, as well as articles on the Internet. Here are the resources that I found useful. Feel free to send a comment with more suggestions.
Online Resources
- Christian Resource Center - Here read books written by A.T. Jones and E.J. Waggoner.
- 1888 Message Study Committee - Also has material from Jones, Waggoner, and other authors.
Hardback Books
Some of these may be hard for you to find, however, they were and are valuable resources to me.
- The 1888 Message by Robert J. Wieland
- Movement of Destiny by LeRoy Edwin Froom
- The Cross and Its Shadow by Stephen N. Haskell
- The Great Controversy by Ellen G. White
- The Desire of Ages by Ellen G. White
- Why Jesus Waits by Herbert E. Douglass
- Also, good bible commentaries are valuable as they provide insights that the average reader(who can't tell Greek from Hebrew, and has never studied the customs and other history of biblical times) wouldn't discover otherwise.
Bible
I am sure that you can find this theme in just about any book of the Bible, but here are the ones that were especially noticable during the point of this writing as regards to the righteousness by faith message.
- Isaiah
- Jeremiah
- Ezekiel
- All minor prophets
- Gospels(especially Matthew and John)
- Romans
- 1, 2 Corinthians
- Galatians
- Ephesians
- Philippians
- Colossians
- 1 Thessalonians
- Titus
- Hebrews
- 2nd Peter
- 1 John
- Also, Psalms 119
Like I said, every book of the Bible is full of this truth. These are just ones that were marked up the most in my own Bible when going through this.
Finally, it really helps to find a good friend who is knowledgeable in the subject and who doesn't mind helping you tackle some of these issues.
